Shannon & Dan — A September Wedding at Fairyhill, Gower
There are venues you photograph and venues you feel. Fairyhill is firmly the latter.
Tucked within 24 acres of Gower countryside — in Britain's first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty — Fairyhill has a quality that's difficult to articulate and impossible to ignore. It holds you quietly. The grounds settle around you, the light moves gently through the woodland, and even on a busy wedding day, there are moments of genuine stillness to be found.
Shannon and Dan's September wedding was full of those moments.
The Day
September on the Gower carries a particular kind of light — warm and unhurried, with just enough golden depth to make everything feel like it matters. It's one of my favourite times of year to photograph at Fairyhill, and Shannon and Dan's day reminded me exactly why.
From the very beginning, the mood was relaxed and refined. There was no performance to it — just two people, genuinely happy, surrounded by the people they love most. My role, as always, was simply to be present within that. To move quietly through the day, follow the feeling, and trust that the photographs would take care of themselves.
And they did.
The Grounds
If you're planning a wedding at Fairyhill and wondering where the most beautiful photography locations are — the answer is everywhere. The rolling lawns, the walled garden, the woodland paths — each one offers something different depending on the light and the time of day.
But for Shannon and Dan, it was the bridge by the stream that stayed with me most.
There's a quietness to that spot that's hard to find anywhere else on the estate. The water moves below you, the trees close in gently around the path, and suddenly the day slows right down. It's where couples exhale. Where they stop thinking about guests and schedules and simply stand together for a few minutes — and those are always the photographs that feel most true.
Fairyhill as a Venue
For couples considering Fairyhill for their wedding, it's worth knowing what makes it so extraordinary to photograph. The K Room — a striking glass-fronted ceremony and reception space — floods with natural light and frames the grounds beautifully, making it exceptional for ceremony coverage regardless of the season.
Outside, the combination of the Georgian house, the woodland, the lake, and the landscaped gardens offers an almost inexhaustible variety of settings — all within a few minutes' walk of each other. You never feel rushed. You never feel like you're being pulled away from your own day. The photography can happen naturally, because the venue makes it effortless.
Fairyhill is also ideally positioned for couples who want to extend their portraits into the wider Gower landscape — Rhossili Bay, voted one of Europe's finest beaches, is just a short drive away should you wish to venture out during the drinks reception.
A Note on Shannon and Dan
"Andrew was our photographer for our wedding and we can't thank him enough. He went above and beyond. I truly felt like he was a part of the wedding and captured some fantastic moments."
It means everything to hear that. Not because of the praise, but because of what it reflects — a day that felt genuine, connected, and entirely theirs. That's always the goal.
